Created in 1290, the University of Coimbra is the oldest university of Portugal and one of the oldest in all of Europe, with the Faculty of Medicine being present since the University’s foundation.

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC) was the only Medical School in Portugal until the year 1825.

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra is considered to be one of the most important schools of medicine in Portugal due to its vast research areas, PhD programs, and integrated masters in Medicine with more than 2000 students enrolled.

Nowadays, most classes take place in Polo III due to its modern facilities and proximity to the Centro Hospital Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC).

The Faculty of Medicine prides itself in the autonomy and determination that its students demonstrate on a daily basis. With this being said, FMUC propels its students to go beyond limits.
